New Album News!

22/01/08

This in from the Zutons official mailin list:

The Zutons have gone into Sunset Sound Studios in LA with producer George Drakoulias (The Black Crowes/ Primal Scream/ Tom Petty) to commence recording their third album. The as yet untitled album is the follow-up to the multi platinum selling albums Who Killed The Zutons? (2004) and Tired Of Hanging Around (2006) and is due for release in the Spring. The band have also announced that they will be appearing at this year's Isle of Wight Festival which runs from the 13th - 15th June.

During 2007 the band wrote and demoed songs for the new album and saw Mark Ronson's version of Valerie (from Tired Of Hanging Around) become a smash hit across the globe and end as one of the Top Ten selling singles of the year in the UK.

On making the new album, Dave McCabe says... "At first I was a bit scared at the thought of going to LA to make this album because we've never been away to record before. Since we've got here it's been sound though, we've been buzzing off the Americans, it's taken our heads to a different place and it's brought us closer together. Sometimes you have to go a million miles away or get on a plane for ten hours to get closer together.

George [the producer] is hilarious, he's like a walking jukebox and he's getting a good vibe in the room. It definitely feels different with an American producer than what we're used to and I think that's a good thing for us now."

You probably already know this but the official site's been revamped: thezutons.com

New album news

08/01/06

Happy new year everyone, god help us one and all! Its ben a bit lax around here lately, but things should be picking up soon with the new album - provisionally titled 'Tired Of Hanging Around' after one of the tracks, and due for release on 24th April.

Dave McCabe told the Echo: "We thought of that name because we haven't had an album out in a little while and it's kind of a positive and negative thing at the same time."

The album was produced by Stephen Street, producer for Blur, Super Furries and the Beasties. Dave said: "We chose him because he's the only one who came to Liverpool and listened to us play. He's a safe pair of hands as well. We recorded it in London and not Liverpool because we would have had all our mates coming in and telling us what they thought of every song before it was finished. But we seemed to finish recording it in a flash. At the moment it's 19 songs and we're trying to cut it down to 10 or 11 - it kind of picks itself. It's the same classic Zutons sound but it's definitely moved on. I don't think it sounds like what most other Liverpool bands have done. There's no jingly jangly and there's no disco bits on it because I'm sick to death of it and it seems like every band is doing that."

I haven't heard any of the new stuff myself, but man-in-the-know Gareth suggested these tracks which have been aired in recent months:

Weekend Scrub (late 2004 tour)
You Got A Friend In Me (March 2005 tour)
Unknown Title (Carling 24 Gig)
Hello Conscience (Carling 24 + most summer gigs)
Why Won't You Give Me Your Love (Amsterdam & T Mobile gigs)
Valerie (Amsterdam & T Mobile gigs)
Stacey (Amsterdam & T Mobile gigs)
Yesterday's Drawers (Amsterdam & T Mobile gigs)

There was some other stuff I've missed too - The Zutons are playing some NME awards thing at the Koko in Camden on February 14th, tickets went on sale ages ago so if you didn't know, soz. Thats all for now, if anyone hears any news, drop me a line at granty@thezutons.net - cheerio, Granty.

Charity gig cancelled / E4 V Festival coverage

19/08/05

A new date (and hopefully a day long event, minus Bedingfield) will be announced soon, and it should be sometime within the next five weeks - though hopefully when the Zutons aren't in the states recording their new album.

The Zutons will be contibuting a track to the forthcoming War Child album, designed to raise money for children affected by the Iraq war. Heres the official War Child website statement....

The line-up for "Help: A Day In The Life" will feature Radiohead, Gorillaz, Razorlight, The Zutons, Manic Street Preachers, Bloc Party, Hard-Fi, The Coral, Elbow, Mylo and Maximo Park. New artists are being added to the line-up each day.

These are both for a worthwhile cause so dig deep you filthy tramps.

New look for thezutons.net

10/08/05

Ive tarted the site up a bit. The old one looked too boring to be honest and it did't work in some browsers, so heres the new one: a mix between Tron and Las Vegas - let me know what you think

While I was at it Ive added a jukebox feature, click on the launch button to the left and a popup should come up where you can play tunes and interviews etc. I'll be adding more to that later, you need flash player 7 for it to work properly.

Theres a new tab bit as well, its just the basic chords for now but hopefully some of you will send in your transcriptions so I can pad it out a bit.

Festivals and other stuff

29/06/05

Its been a bit quiet round here lately - in between various live dates their new album, The Zutons have been writing and recording their new album. No details as yet but Ive got a feeling in my bones there's a tour coming soon, maybe August.

More dates have been added to the gigs page including, U2 support slots in Nice and Munich, what looks like a warm up gig in Preston, and some more festivals. In the meantime, you can catch them supporting REM.

Gigwise.com have reported that Dave McCabe and another Zuton will be performing an acoustic set to open the annual Independents Day night in Liverpool Barfly on Friday 1st July. Tickets are £1 before 8pm and £3 before 10pm - you cant argue with those prices.

The Zutons will be playing the Scottish Live 8 on 6th July - Im not sure of the BBCs broadcasting schedule yet but lets hope its better than their coverage of Glastonbury...

P.S. The new forum's back online as well. Cheers folks - Granty.

Preston Mill gig announced

03/05/05

The Zutons are playing at The Mill (cheers Gareth) on Aquaduct Street, Preston on 19th August. No details confirmed yet of any more dates, but a cosy tour of smaller venues to air the new tunes would be nice...

You can get tickets from here and here.

PS - According to someone on the official board, there's a not-so-secret secret gig on Saturday at Jones' Wine Bar, City Road, Chester, Saturday 14th May. Tickets on private sale only, if you're lucky you might bump into someone off Hollyoaks.

According to my posh mate Anthony, The Zutons are on the Frank Skinner show tonight on ITV at 23:00. Should be a good one this week, he's got Kelly Brook, Simon Callow, Tom Jones, Jools Holland and the Zutons. I wonder if Jools will geg in with his piano for the Zutons slot? Wouldn't suprise me.

You probably all know about the Confusion single. Its out on the 13th December - You can preorder it from Amazon here, or visit the official site for details on how to get the CD with the poster. Click here to watch a Quicktime clip of 'Confusion'

Set your videos for Jools Holland!

03/11/04

Its been a while since I last updated this site (sorry), and theres been so much happening since I last updated it in May what with Mercury nominations, festival sucesses etc. that it'd take a large portion of my day to stay on top of it, so Im going to concentrate on more recent news for now:

The Zutons are Jools Holland, 11.35pm, BBC 2, Fri 5th November 2004. Set your video for that one. Click here to visit the 'Later...' site

'Confusion' is gonna be released as the next single! In case you haven't heard it, its the one off the Peugot advert. The b-side on the CD single is the Dr John cover, 'Jump Sturdy', recorded at Maida Vale for Radio 1, and will be making an appearance on a Levis ad in the states. B-side for the 7" vinyl is the original version (is there any other?) of 'You Will, You Wont'.

The Zutons' latest single, 'Dont Ever Think (too much)' is out now to buy - it reached 15 in the Charts, their highest position yet...

The purchase and gigs page have been updated - I think thats about it, and thats how for now.

ULU & Portsmouth Rescheduled

10.05.04

Ive just been informed that the cancelled Portsmouth Wedgewood Rooms and London ULU gigs have now been rescheduled for:

Mon 21 June Portsmouth Wedgewood rooms
Tue 22 June London ULU

The original gigs were cancelled due to drummer Sean Payne hurting his hand after a flight case crushed it. Paul Maguire, who used to be in The Stairs, will be Sean's replacement until he's back on the stool.

Original tickets are still valid for the rescheduled gigs, if you can't make the new dates you'll be refunded.

The Zutons' new single, 'Remember Me', will be released on 21st June (its got top 10 written all over it that one) - in the meantime they'll be doing a mini tour of Japan with old mates The Bandits.

ULU Cancelled

07.05.04

According to the official site...

The Zutons have been forced to cancel their sold out show at London’s ULU tonight (Friday 7th May). Drummer Sean Payne broke his fingers when a flight case was dropped on his hand at Portsmouth’s Wedgewood Rooms yesterday. The band also had to cancel their show in Portsmouth last night, the penultimate date of their seventeen-date UK tour. The band are awaiting x-ray results so they can determine how long Sean will need to recover. The London and Portsmouth dates will be re-scheduled as soon as possible and tickets remain valid. Refunds will be available from point of purchase for anyone unable to attend the re-scheduled shows. The band apologises for any inconvenience or upset caused. All efforts have been made to continue with the show, but unfortunately a replacement drummer could not be found in time.

Payneful! Get well soon Sean, myself and the other Zutonutters wish you a speedy recovery.

Album Enters at 5

22/04/04

According to the NME, 'Who Killed The Zutons' has entered the album charts at number 5, they had this to say about the Liverpool Virgin Megastore gig... THE ZUTONS played a packed homecoming gig last night (April 20) at the VIRGIN MEGASTORE in LIVERPOOL city centre, with hundreds of fans queuing around the corner to see the band... Heres the full NME article

Xfm have got Dave McCabe giving us a track by track explanation of 'Who Killed the Zutons' - click here for a piece of that action.

The Zutons have been confirmed for the V Festival. They'll be on the NME stage on Sat 21st (Staffs) and Sunday 22nd (Chelmsford), alongside big acts like The Scissor Sisters, Massive Attack, BRMC and er... Starsailor.

The official site has announced the Shepherds Bush gig, on the 8th October, £10 plus booking fee. Tickets are available from Ticketmaster, Aloud, and Ticketweb.

Be sure to buy this weeks NME - The Zutons get a bizarre full page feature on page 31 that, frankly, seems a bit over the top - nice one anyway Hercule Beaumont!

Theres more album reviews been added too - thats it for now...

Zuton's New Management

03.11.03

According to their record company, Deltasonic, The Zutons have a new management team to look after their public relations. The Coalition Group take care of several high profile artists such as Richard Ashcroft, Tom Waits, Kings of Leon and The Libertines. The PR company was launched by Tim Vigon and was later joined by partner Tony Perrin, then Embrace's manager, in 2000.

You only need a quick look at the Coalition Groups website to realise they have an extensive reach when it comes to magazines, national press, radio & TV - a sure fire sign that we'll all be seeing and hearing a lot more from The Zutons in the media.

Pressure Point now available to pre-order

Amazon are advertising the forthcoming single, 'Pressure Point', now available to pre-order for the release date of 19th Jan. No definitive info on the B-sides as yet, but an extended version of 'Zutonkhamun' has been suggested by Gareth who spoke to Dave McCabe recently.

Zutons Mini Tour

12.09.03

Hello again folks, sorry its been a while since I posted any news - bad job stuff. Its been a great summer for The Zutons with the festivals and everything, it looks like theres a new bunch of fans and a renewed interest in the band - but that aside, there hasn't been much news on The Zutons lately, possibly due to the fact they've been beavering away at their new album down in London. I don't know which studio they were recording in, but Natalie Imbruglia was there apparently. I hear the album is out early in the new year after 2 more singles, but this is liable to change as it usually does.

You can get tickets for a mini tour on www.wayahead.com (thanks Ellen) - call 0871 2200260 for the box office. Theres only 3 dates so far: Cardiff, Bristol and Leicester; but this is probably a warm-up tour to test new material out for something a bit more substantial.

Ive just found another date at King Tut's Wah Wah in Glasgow on the 23.10.03 - click here to order tickets from Ticketmaster, or call 0870 0600800.

That's all for now - cheers everyone, Granty.

'Scream Success / Abel's Return

25.06.03

The Zutons played a fantastic set at The Coral's 'Midsummer Night's Scream' gig at the big top in New Brighton. Being placed bottom of the day's bill didn't stop legions of Zutons fans flocking to welcome in the days entertainment, in fact other big-top goers curious to hear if The Zutons lived up to their hype found out through a short but brilliant set that indeed they do.

I don't know the set list in full as a few new tunes were aired, but they did play 'Gotta Keep the Feelin' and 'Rumblin ramblin'. The current single, 'Creepin' A' A Crawlin'' went down a storm - you could actually hear thousands of people humming  'A-hum, a-hum'! Last on the set was 'Zuton Fever' - surely the next single.

Our roving reporter and fair-weather friend, Kraig Abel, has decided to stick it out with the unofficial Zutons site - probably till something better comes along, and he's given us a new issue. Cheers Kraig.

Oxford & Bournemouth Cancelled

12.06.03

news on the Deltasonic site is The Zutons will not be playing two of their support slots with The Thrills this month. The first two dates of the tour, 13th (Bournemouth) & 16th (Oxford), will not feature the Zutons. The Sugarmill gig was rescheduled by the Thrills for July 14th, but The Zutons won't be supporting as they're in the studio working on the album.

Don't forget about the free Bandits & Stands glasto warm-up on Thursday 25th at the Zanzibar. Get there for 8:30pm if you want in.

Free Stands/Bandits Warm Up Gig

06.06.03

Tramp Attack/Abel Transfer Confusion

02.06.03

There have been rumours that our man in the field and all round Billy liar, Kraig Abel-Search, has been approached by Zuton's contemporaries, Tramp Attack, for a transfer. Kraig has been a regular columnist for the Zutons' unofficial site, but has recently been out of the picture due to technical difficulties.

The Tramps have posted a statement on their official site stating that nobody from thezutons.net was available for comment, though we can confirm no attempt was made by Tramp Attack to contact us - leading many to believe underhand tactics have been employed by the Tramps to secure Abel's transfer. Forecasters say a potential bidding war, rivalled only by BBC/ITVs attempts at securing John Leslies video diaries, is imminent. More news as and when we can be arsed reading other band's message boards.

New Site

22.05.03

Hello everyone - sorry its been a while, but the unofficial & very unoriginal Zutons site is back up and running. Im in the process of updating the gigs/press /review pages and as usual Im always interested in any news/gigs/reviews/gossip/photos for the site so email me at granty@thezutons.net if you know anything. PS Kraig if youre out there send me another issue of Abel's Corner!

Thanks for your patience people, and for giving me an excuse not to watch Big Brother.

Enjoy

In Brief

25.03.03

Sorry its been a while since I put any news up everyone, but to be honest I havent heard any. Except that the forthcomin' single, Creepin' an a Crawlin & Rumblin Ramblin, may be out on the 24th April. Ive heard both tracks, the first sounds more vocal and whispery than the second - Im not good at describing songs so I'll stop there. Also, the video is in infra red apparently.

The Zutons will be providing support for Mull Historical Society which starts tomorrow I think, details on the dates page.

Finally, our man in the field Kraig Abel-Search has brought us another classic issue in Abel's Corner, PS Kraig, Ive got us a double room for Sheffield. Its got an en-suite bog and everything!

Gigs, Abel etc

05.03.03

Abels got his new issue up, and rumours on the board of upcoming gigs at:
Bristol Fleece & Firkin - 31.03.03
Supporting Ladytron at the Electric Ballroom, Camden - 20.03.03

The Zutons' new single

20.02.03

A mate of mine sat in with The Zutons when they listened to their newly pressed CD at the recording studio. Its called 'Bounce Back' and will probably be released in the not too distant future, hopefully with enough copies for everyone. I'll keep you posted.

Mull these dates over

19.02.03

I know most of you know this but Im going to say it anyway for those who don't - The Zutons will be supporting Mull Hisorical Society on the following dates:

March
26th Newcastle University of Northumbria (Box Office: 0191 261 2606)
27th Birmingham Academy 2 (0870 771 2000)
29th Sheffield Leadmill (0845 300 4050)
30th Liverpool Stanley Theatre (0151 256 5555)
31st Bristol Fleece (0870 4444 400)

April
1st - Brighton Concorde 2 (01273 709 709)
3rd - London Shepherds Bush Empire (0870 771 2000; 020 7403 3331; 020 7287 0932; 020 7734 8932; 020 7403 3331; 020 7344 4040)
4th - Manchester University (0870 771 2000)
5th - Glasgow Barrowlands (0870 169 0100)

Hold the front page - Abel's got a scoop!

14.02.03

I can confirm our man in the field, Kraig, has been suffering from chicken pox recentley which explains his apparent lack of commitment to his gossip column. Don't be disheartened though, he's made a full recovery and has gone on to write possibly this century's most outstanding piece of music journalism. It is my pleasure to introduce to you - issue #4

Some Changes to the Site

29.01.03

Due to changes in employment, Im going to have to move the site to a completely new host - which means that it will no longer have the same address you all know. You'll still be able to access the site via the www.thezutons.cjb.net address but not the longer www.staff.livjm.ac.uk/leangran/Zutons. Details of the new host and URL will be up shortly, but if the site disappears for a short while, be patient - it'll be back soon!

Zutons to Feature in Arena Magazine

27.01.03

The Zutons' will feature in next month's Arena mag, according to Dave. I don't know what month's issue that will be exactly - so keep an eye out for it.

Bandits New Single

23.01.03

The Bandit's new single, 'Once Upon a Time' will be out on the 3rd February so pre-order your copy now on Amazon before it sells out - its only £3.99 for Christ's sake and it sounds amazing, apparently.

Zutons Play London Tonite

22.01.03

This was on the Deltasonic site:

It is The Zutons, not The Basement, who are playing at 93 Feet East in London this Wednesday - 22.01.03.
It was mis-reported, so apologies for any inconvenience!
The Zutons are on stage 8.45pm

More Inane B-Abel (babble)

Abel's Corner issue #2 published

16.01.03

Our own roving reporter, Craig Abel-Search, has sent me the latest on Matthew Kelly in his dedicated column 'Abel's Corner', a unique take on current affairs (Zutons related or otherwise). Next week - The Zutons' story.

Coming in 2003

08.01.03

Hello everyone - hope a good Christmas and New Year was had by all. Im going to be making a few changes to the site with the new year, but thats not all you have to look forward to. Heres a list of what 2003 will bring us:

· The release of The Zutons next single (dont ask me which one), with enough copies for everyone!

· The release of The Zutons' album

· The Zutons' official website will be launched, I think

· Friend of the Zutons, Craig Abel, will be giving his bizzare and regular updates on whats going on with the band in his personal spot entitled 'Abel's Corner'

· Plenty of gigs to go to

As usual, any news would be appreciated, as are any photos etc. Watch this space.

Merry Christmas Everyone!

20.12.02

The Zutons played a superb gig to an excited crowd last night in the Zanzibar. Supported by the excellent Stands, they showcased some of the new tunes we've heard about - I think one of them was called 'Rumble Ramble', or 'Rimble Ramble' or something like that. They were all brilliant anyway, kind of more laid back but very refined. The starlets of the 'Liverpool scene' were out in force too. Highlights for me were Son O'John from Tramp Attack explaining to me why he looked like Rocky Dennis, and the bass player from The Coral going into a weird trance when The Zutons played 'Railroad'. I know how he felt. Im out with The Zutons' Dave McCabe tonite for a few ales so I'll try and wring some decent news out of him.

Well Christmas has come, and Granty's getting fat. Im off now till mid January so this'll be the last post until I run out of dry turkey butties and shitty French lager. Can I take this opportunity to thank everyone who visits the site for giving me something constructive to do, all the bands who made 2002 thoroughly more entertaining, and my long suffering girlfriend, Lisa, who will probably finish me for spending more time on the computer than I do with her. God bless all of you, merry Christmas and happy new year!

Gigwise Article

09.12.02

Jules from www.gigwise.com has just informed me of his latest Zutons article, 'Musical Zutopia'- its got some nice pics on it and we find out that The Zutons are playing at the Zanzibar with the excellent Stands on the 19th December, looking forward to that one! Theres a bit of news about the forthcoming album too. Exciting stuff.

Next Zutons Gig

04.12.02

According to message board chit chat, the Zutons gig in the Sheffield was cancelled. But don't despair, the Judge has announced rumours of a Zanzibar gig on the 19th of December. It'll probably feature lots of new songs too, the Deltasonic site says they've wrote 18 new tunes in the last 4 weeks! Chances are we'll get to find out what the new year single is gonna be.

There will be more tunes added to the sound section soon - Ive been promised a bootleg of the Sheperds Bush gig, so come back soon folks.

Old Message Board Back

21.11.02

Ive put the old message board back where it belongs - nobody uses the new one so its gone.

Official Zutons Site in Progress

20.11.02

Looks like theres gonna be an official Zutons website. Deltasonic and Sony have registered 'thezutons.co.uk' and 'thezutons.com' respectively. When you actually type 'thezutons.com' into your browser, you are redirected to the Sony site onto a page with Charlotte Church on - bizzarely. Maybe they're planning a collaboration or something.

Other news in brief:

The Deltasonic site reckons new Zutons material will be released after crimbo

The Zutons will be playing the Sheffield Barfly on the 4th December, so book your speck now.

Ive just got a job at Parr Street Studios, so I might have to scale the site down a bit.

If youve got any news, contact me - its all a bit dried up at the minute, thanks folks - Granty

More copies of single to be made?

14.11.02

Not much to report, only that Paul from Live magazine has been in touch and will be sending me better quality photos from the photo shoot so I can add them to the site.

Sources inform me that The Zutons album is set for release next autumn, and theres a chance that more copies of Devil's Deal may be made, which is good news for all the fans that were unable to purchase a copy - and bad news for anyone who's just spent £20 for it on Ebay (me)

I'll keep my ear to the ground for any more news, in the meantime I might do a competition where you win a setlist or something.

More dates & Masque photos

29.10.02

Ive just added the photos from the Masque gig last Wednesday, I took them with without a flash so they're a bit blurred - but I still think they're nice and atmospheric.

At long last, Deltasonic have updated the 'news' section of their site - and Ive taxed it so you don't have to bother. Heres a few live dates:

· 29th October: 333 bar in shoreditch Zutons headlining launch party
· 30th October: Hammersmith Lyric theatre Zutons supporting the bees
· 7th November: Dazed and confused accoustic set Manchester

I finally got round to adding the saxy Abi Harding to the band section too.

The Zutons Feature in Live Magazine

22.10.02

The Zutons are currently gracing the cover of Liverpool's new free music magazine entitle 'Live'. Theres a decent interview with Sean and Dave and Ive been promised some quality shots by the photographer which will be on the site shortly.

Ive taken the article down from this site for copyright reasons and added a link to the live magazine website where you can read the article in full, www.livemagazine.co.uk

Chatroom & Photos Added

18.10.02

Ive been having a mess around with this chatroom script, please have a go of it and tell me if it works or not. If it does, Ill make it a permanent fixture to the site.

Ive added more photos to the photo page too, mainly the Manchester Academy gig. It took all day to add them nibber so you'd better be grateful.

Just in case you don't know, The Zutons are playing in the Masque next Wednesday. Have a good weekend folks - Granty

New 'Sound' Section

15.10.02

At last, all you unlucky buggers who want to know what all the fuss is about can actually hear The Zutons in the new sound section. I removed the band section temporarily to make room but it'll be back on at a later date.

Theres only one tune on there at the minute, and you'll need Flash 6 player installed on your browser to hear it.

The Coral and Zutons rock the boat

15.10.02

The Coral tour has been a resounding success judging by the response and feedback from the gigs. This is not limited to the headlining band however; the support of The Zutons, The Hokum Clones, The Bandits and Tramp Attack has been equally well received by people new to Liverpools new bands. I heard from a number of people how the support were worthy of headlining on their own merits. A sentiment I agree with, and many others by the sound of things.

A couple of changes. Ive made a new message board because the last one got on my nerves and didn't fit with the rest of the site. If you have any problems with it email me and Ill sort it out. Heres the old one if you want a look at the previous entries: http://disc.server.com/Indices/191362.html

Make sure you come back soon because Im making a Zu-TV so you can hear some of the tracks, and if any of you lucky souls out there have found an outlet selling Devil's Deal, email me so I can advertise them. Judging by the number of emails Im getting, there aren't nearly enough CDs to cope with public demand

Finally, Im not a Zuton. If you have any official/business queries, contact Deltasonic. Thats all for now folks - Granty.

Barfly Gig

26.09.02

Amazon have finally got their arses in gear and now have 'Devils Deal' in stock. You'll have to be quick if you want a copy - there's only a limited amount in stock. Click here to get yours now

Thanks to Deltasonic for arranging free transport to the Camden gig - it was an amazing gig and a great day out. Sorry about the state of the rental vans by the way.

Setlist and pictures will be up in the gallery shortly, in the meantime I think bits of the gig will be aired on Xfm.

Gallery

19.09.02

Ive added The Zutons' setlist from Saturday's Bandwagon to the gallery - more pics coming soon courtesy of Nibber.

NME 'On'

17.09.02

The Zanzibar gig sounded like a good from judging by early reports, missed it myself because I had flu. If anyone has any photo's of the event, please send them on to me.

The NME 'On' article has been added to the press page.

Found this page before, its got MP3s and video clips of everything Bandwagon! Fill yer boots lads!

A Couple of Things

13.09.02

OK folks, just a couple of things before I finish and the weekend begins...

· If you cant get hold of 'Devils Deal' - try www.sisterray.co.uk

· The Zutons are in this week's NME, Ill be adding it to the site soon

· They're playing the Bandwagon at the Zanzibar on Saturday

· Some tosser has nicked the Bandwagon backdrop for the stage. If anyone knows who did it, tell The Judge so he can administer some rough justice - the court will be in session

· Russell Pritchard's mum sent me an email saying the NME got his surname wrong. Its not Simmonds if you're reading, Imran Ahmed!

Have a good weekend everyone - Granty

Extra Live Dates

06.09.02

A couple of extra gigs have been added to the dates section if you wanna peek. The Zutons are on at the Zanzibar this Saturday, see you there.

Deltasonic Site Up And Running

04.09.02

I hate to say it but the Deltasonic sites up and its looking damn good. Theres a section on The Zutons, The Coral and Danny Conors, all with their respective biogs, photos and listening sections.

The general news section also says that The Zutons will feature in an 'On' article in the 11th September edition of the NME, so keep your eyes peeled for that one.

Release Date Mayhem

02.09.02

As you've probably gathered by trekking to your local Record store only to be turned back again, The Zutons' EP release has been delayed once more. It'll now be out on the 9th of this month, possibly due to a clash with The Bandits release of 'The Warning'. You may as well buy that one too though cos its just as good.

Press and a Poster

27.08.02

Hello folks, sorry about the delay in updating the site - Beatles festival and all that. Not much to add, only that theres a smart article about liverpool bands from The Observer which has been added to the press page, the NME review on the review page, and Marc Hannon sent in an old Bandwagon poster which Ive added to the gallery. Apart from that, 'This is Music' was fantastic - I only wish Flynny had taped the right channel.

NME Radio

21.08.02

Even though the release Devils Deal has been put back, you can still get a chance to hear it on NME.com radio, according to Paul Bradley. Click here to tune in.

This is Music Special

19.08.02

The Granada 'This is Music' team have left a message on the board saying the 'Night at the Bandwagon' special will be aired on Friday 23rd August at 11.30pm - you don't need me to tell you how much you need to watch it.

Single Rescheduled

19.08.02

Bad news everyone - the single's been rescheduled for a release date of 2nd September. I found out the hard way by hiking the shop, only to be turned back by a well informed counter assistant.

Ive already received a ton of emails from angry customers asking why their record shop doesn't have the single in stock. The simple answer is that its been put back two weeks and nobody was told, well, I wasn't anyway.

The Zutons support The Coral

19.08.02

Just had a look at Sony's site, and it looks like The Zutons will be supporting The Coral for a few gigs on their next tour. Also supporting will be The Stands, The Hokum Clones and The Bandits. You can book tickets in advance of everyone else on the dates page.

Secret Gig

15.08.02

Now that its over, I can reveal there was a secret gig at the Zanzibar yesterday afternoon. It was filmed by Granada for a 'This is Music' special called 'A Night at the Bandwagon'. Its gonna be aired in the Granada region in a couple of weeks, so set your video for god's sake.

The Zutons played, so did The Coral, The Bandits, The Hokum Clones, The Stands and Tramp Attack - I missed it because I couldn't get the afternoon off work, so you'll have to rely on the testimonials on the message board to get an idea of how amazing it was. I wish I'd faked my own death now.

PS The Granada team have left a 'thank you for a fantastic day' on the message board - ahhhh!

Photos!

13.08.02

Ive got some photos of the Camden mooch to see The Bandits - I could do with some more though, so send some in if you've got any and I'll add them to the Hall of Shame.

The Bandits trip

12.08.02

The trip down to Camden to see the Bandits was a classic day out, and if you never went you missed a memorable gig. Ive never heard The Bandits before but Im into them now.

Thanks to the Judge for organising the whole shenanigans, and Frank the coachdriver for letting everyone smoke the 'waccy baccy' as he put it. We need to do something like that again. And if you've got any photos of the event, scan them and send them in and I'll do a hall of shame.

Not much left to say but thanks for the criticisms on my sites colour, Im now in the process of changing it from the 'shitty brown' / 'fucking cold hot chocolate' colour to something more palatable.

Zutons Telly Premiere

12.08.02

The Zutons were on telly and they were superb.

My only gripe is that they deserved more airtime than the other bands as The Zutons were good, and the other bands were actually shit, and thats not favouritism - thats the truth. Im looking into putting a clip of it on the site when I get round to figuring it out.

Zutons Gig

07.08.02

The Zutons will be playing at the Barfly night in Sheffield on the 21st August. Click here for details.

This is Music

07.08.02

The Zutons are definitely on telly tonight, I promise. 7th August ITV Granada at 22.50. The bloke on last weeks show said Cracatilla were on too, I havent heard them yet but I think The Zutons have played with them before.

The Bandits Big Day Out in London

07.08.02

Got an email off The Bandits' mate Scott who's organising the London trip. Everyone who's booked a seat has got to be at The Zanzibar at 11.40 on Thursday 8th August. Don't forget your fiver as well, and The Coral's film crew are gonna be there too so make sure you've had a wash.

If you live in the Camden area, get your ass down to Barfly at The Monarch and you can mingle with the scousers of the minute.

False Alarm

01.08.02

Sorry everyone - I was told The Zutons would be on telly last night (see below), but it never happened. It wasn't all bad though cos we got to see The Coral perform 'Calenders and Clocks' and a lively version of 'Skeleton Key' which cheered me up, not to mention some vintage Happy Mondays.

According to Scott Judge, The Zutons will be on next weeks show, and he's the man in the know about these matters so you can take that as gospel.

The Zutons on the telly!

30.07.02

The Zutons are on ITV Granada's 'This is Music' programme on Wednesday 31st July at 22:50. Thats tomorrow nite to all you regulars. They recorded it on Friday 26th in Liverpool according to a source close to the band so the airing date should be right. Dont blame me if it ain't!

New Single

26.07.02

Ive just got a copy of The Zutons' debut single, 'Devils Deal', from a mate who was in a band with Dave McCabe and myself. Its got '6ft Man' as the B-side and an instrumental called 'Zutonkhamun'. Safe name!

Im not going to bother writing an in depth review as Im liable to sound like an over enthusiastic tosser, you'll have to wait till it come

ibed as 'already a contender for single of the year'.

Setlist

08.07.02

Phil Rose has kindly sent me a setlist of The Zutons' gig when they were standing in for The Music at the Bandwagon night, it goes something like this...

Devils Deal
Evil Woman
On The Bayou
Carpet Ride
Not A Lot To Do
Bam Da Da Bam
Busty Bill
6ft Tall
Leave Your Bags
The Chase

M+H's
Lookin Out

Cheers Phil
